Link2Mecanic, the SpaceClaim plugin for Mecanic CAM, has reached end of life: development has stopped and the product is in maintenance mode.

Important update: End of Life of the Yocto Link2Mecanic module

Since its launch in 2009, many of our customers have successfully used the Yocto Link2Mecanic module for a smooth transfer of 2D and 3D data to Mecanic CAM.

The software world, however, is constantly changing. Following recent acquisitions and changes in our partners' strategies, the technology landscape around this interface has changed radically. SpaceClaim was acquired by Synopsys, which led to a shift in focus towards simulation and higher prices. As a result, SpaceClaim has unfortunately lost its original appeal for our specific activities.

In addition, Mecasoft, the developer of Mecanic, has indicated that Mecanic v9.6 will be the last version to support the current exchange format in combination with SpaceClaim. Although no change to this format is planned in the short term, so no immediate problems are to be expected, this does carry risks for the future.

Given our strong dependence on the technology of these two external partners, we can no longer guarantee that the module will keep working in the long term. We have therefore had to make the difficult decision to stop all further development of the Yocto Link2Mecanic module with immediate effect and to place it in maintenance mode.

What does this mean for you in practice?

  • Your current installation keeps working: the module you are using today will continue to work normally in your existing software environment.
  • No new updates: no new features will be developed. Unfortunately, we can no longer guarantee compatibility with future versions of SpaceClaim, Mecanic or Windows.
  • Maintenance contracts end: current maintenance contracts for this module can no longer be renewed in the future.
  • SpaceClaim support: for all updates and direct support relating to SpaceClaim, you can now go to the new owner's portal: ansys.synopsys.com/support.
